Boundary Conditions Research Services is a founder-led scientific consulting firm. We take on a small number of high-impact engagements where expert judgment meaningfully improves research outcomes.
The company was founded by Geano Dong, PhD, a soil physicist and hydrologist with deep expertise in advanced environmental sensing — particularly cosmic-ray neutron sensing (CRNS) for large-scale soil moisture observation.
Geano's work integrates physical theory, field instrumentation, inverse modeling, data assimilation, and uncertainty analysis across heterogeneous spatial and temporal scales. Her background includes training at the Santa Fe Institute in complex systems, computational mechanics, and information theory — tools that inform how she approaches problems where standard methods break down.
The company relies on expert scientific judgment, not routine technical execution. The name reflects a core principle: the most important scientific questions are often defined not by what happens in the middle of a domain, but at its edges — where assumptions fail, where methods reach their limits, and where the interesting science lives.
Every engagement begins with an honest evaluation. We will tell you if a project cannot be salvaged, or if a simpler solution exists than the one you are considering. We do not take on projects we cannot complete to the standard required for publication.
We work with a limited number of clients at a time to ensure that every project receives direct founder involvement — not a team of junior analysts following a template.
